Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
